I realized I have not posted my other verses I'm learning this year with the SSMT. I did verse #1 and haven't posted the others here.

Here is my new verse, it is #6.

"Be at rest once more, O my soul, for the Lord has been good to you."  Psalm 116:7

SSMT 2017 Verse #1

In the past I have done the scripture memory challenge on the Beth Moore blog.  I decided to do that again this year.  I'll post my verses on my blog.

This is the first verse I've chosen...

"But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons."  Galatians 4:4,5

I Can

The point of the book I Can by Kathryn O'Brien and illustrated by Gillian Flint is to help children memorize a scripture. This one is for Philippians 4:13--"I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength." The verse is broken down into pieces. For example, one page says "I can" and then the next page lists things such as I can sing, I can climb, etc. Then it goes on to "I can do" and the following page lists things a child can do like math, puzzles, and chores. The book continues like this until the entire verse is said. Repetition is important when memorizing!

The pages with parts of the verse are written in a larger yellow font. The theme as you can see on the front is a farm scene. I really liked the smoothness and colorfulness of the illustrations with the farm animals and children. I think it would be appropriate for those in the PreK--1st grade range. I liked this book and the idea behind it to help children memorize verses. It is important to hide God's Word in our heart, and this book is a good resource to help you do that with your children.

One thing I have always felt was important was memorizing Scripture. I remember as a little girl having memory verses to recite in Sunday School.  I want to pass this on to our children.  With our oldest son, even before he was school age I would write out verses on sentence strips for him to practice.  I can still hear him saying those in his sweet little voice.

I was so blessed to be introduced to Seeds Family Worship years ago.  We've bought several CDs since then.  The CDs are straight word for word from the Bible.  And it makes it so easy to memorize the verses as you sing the songs.  I've been encouraged by listening to these with my family.  Another great thing is that when you order a CD from them, they send you two CDs so you can keep one for yourself and give one away.  Great idea, huh?

SSMT #1

I'm a little late in doing this post but decided to join up with the Siesta Scripture Memory Team to memorize scriptures this year. I plan for my new scripture to be posted on the 1st and 15th of each month. I'd love for you to join me. Leave me a comment if you are participating also. I think it is very important for us to hide God's Word in our hearts. I like the idea of this scripture memory team because each person chooses a verse that means something to them at the current time.

My first verse is---

I Peter 3:8 (NLT)--"Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude."

Memory Verse Week 52

We have one more memory verse for the year 2008. Here is last week's verse.


I have a new plan for 2009 so check back next Sunday for that! If you want to memorize with me, get a ringed pack of index cards. (I don't know what they're called really...they are index cards with a spiral across the top!) I used this for my verses in 2008, and it was very helpful to have them all in one place.


This week's verse is:
"Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips." Psalm 141:3

Memory Verse Week #51

I liked the verse last week and am so thankful for God's grace. For this week's verse I have a verse from the Old Testament. It is Jeremiah 32: 18, 19--


"O great and powerful God, whose name is the Lord Almighty, great are your purposes and mighty are your deeds. Your eyes are open to all the ways of men; you reward everyone according to his conduct and as his deeds deserve."

Memory Verse Week #50

Did we already make it to week #50 of 2008??


Last week's verse was short and easy to remember and ponder. We need to always have praise for Him on our lips.


This week's verse is found in Titus 2:12. Read the passage here if you'd like.


"It teaches us to say 'No' to ungodliness and wordly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in this present age."


(The "it" is the grace of God.)

Memory Verse Week 49

Here is last week's verse for your reference. Is it your goal to please Christ? I think this is something we can all work towards. It's good to be reminded of our purpose on earth and that this earth isn't our home.


This week's verse is from Psalms. It can be found in Psalms 71:8--

"My mouth is filled with your praise, declaring your splendor all day long."

I read this verse during the week and thought it was a great one to have in my mind during this busy time of year!

Memory Verse Week 48

I received several comments about the verse from last week. I had been reading and hearing verses about "grumbling" recently and when I read that verse I decided to have it as the memory verse. It made me aware of how often I grumble to myself about things.

Is it easy for you to grumble? It sure is for me! I grumble about all kinds of things. When I think about it though, what I'm grumbling about is insignificant and doesn't even matter. Why waste my energy and joy on grumbling? This verse has reminded me to make sure I'm using my gifts to glorify God and not be grumbling about it along the way!

Here is the verse for the coming week. It is 2 Corinthians 5:9, 10:

"So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. For we must all appear before the judgement seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad."

Memory Verse Week 47

I have found several good verses to memorize from Hebrews, like the verse from last week. Have you ever found yourself with bitterness growing inside? It really does cause so much trouble. Sometimes it just sneaks in and we don't realize it but it has a tendency to grow and fester. Then it causes real damage. Kinda like a big weed that keeps showing up in your garden. We need to turn these weeds of bitterness over to God and seek forgiveness and reconciliation rather than let them eat away at us.


This week's verse is found in I Peter 4:10, 11


"Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms."

Memory Verse Week 46

I realized I was off on the counting of the weeks when I looked back through my memory verses. Here is last week's verse for your review. Don't you want to be cleansed and useful to the Master?

This week's verse is found in the New Testament.


"See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many." Hebrews 12:15

Memory Verse #46

The verse for last week stuck out to me so I wanted to memorize it.

This verse was good timing because we are starting Financial Peace University soon. Talk about money and the economy is everywhere. Mostly the talk is negative, and we're reminded how bad things are for everyone. A line from the Dave Ramsey materials asks "Did you know there are over 800 scriptures in the Bible regarding personal finance?"

There is good wisdom in this verse: We can't put our hope in our wealth. Physical wealth will not last. God is our only Hope. Just was we can't put our hope in any man or leader, we also can't place all our hope in our money. It can be gone before we know what happened. Many people have found this out recently. The next part of this verse that sticks out to me is that God "richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment." Our God provides. He knows our needs before we know them and He is ready to provide. The next verse in this passage (I Timothy 6:18) says to "be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share." Dealing with money we have to be thankful for what God provides, use that wisely, and trust Him to meet each need along the way.

Here is the verse I'll be memorizing this week. It is II Timothy 2:21. (You can read the passage here to read it in context. This is such a wonderful passage for daily life.)

"If a man cleanses himself from the latter {ignoble purposes}, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work."

Memory Verse #45

Last week's verse made me think of the song by Steven Curtis Chapman called "Yours" as someone mentioned in their comments when I posted the verse. Everything really is God's, and this verse is a great reminder of that fact. We get caught up in the world too often and forget that this earth is not ours. Praise God for being the Creator of such a beautiful world for us. He desires our praise and adoration.

This week's verse is I Timothy 6:17:

"Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment."

Memory Verse #44

I appreciated the comments about last week's verse. It is convicting to read that we'll have to give account for "every careless word." The King James Version uses the word "idle." I liked reading this commentary on this passage. This makes me wonder how many of my words are careless and should not be said. I know I have a bunch of them!

This week's verse is an encouraging one found in I Chronicles 29:11:

"Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, O Lord is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all."
