A special letter

When I was a little girl, I always loved to write letters to send to family members and pen pals. My grandmother and great grandmother both wrote us frequently, and I loved writing them back. I guess I’ve always loved writing letters; even today with all of our available technology, I still enjoy letter writing. I always hear people say they love to see letters and cards in their mailbox, but it is not something that a lot of people do now.

LWG: Under Construction

At nearly 34 weeks pregnant I am amazed week after week to read the updates on baby sites that tell about the baby's development during that week.  There are constant changes and growth to prepare the baby for his or her arrival into the world.

We have had three ultrasounds between weeks 8 and 20.  Each one shows a little more detail and development of our baby. It is clear to see the baby growing.

One of my church friends gave me this little picture frame for one of our ultrasound pictures. I love the "Under Construction" at the bottom.

Faithful Love

The story of Joseph and Potiphar's wife is a familiar one to me.  You can read it in Genesis 39.   In this story Potiphar's wife tricks Joseph.  He does the right thing in refusing her advances, and he is lied about because of it. Then he ends up in prison because Potiphar believes his wife.  It doesn't seem fair, does it?

Why do you love the Lord?

“I love the Lord, for He heard my voice; He heard my cry for mercy. Because He turned His ear to me, I will call on Him as long as I live.” Psalm 116:1,2
In this Psalm the writer tells us why he loves the Lord. We each would have a different story to tell of how we came to love the Lord and why we love Him today.

Feeling puzzled by the new year?

One of the gifts we got our son for Christmas was a jigsaw puzzle. My idea was we could all help put it together and then mount it as a picture in his newly decorated room. The first night we opened the box he and I put together the border.  Then we all worked for a while on the inside part and made quite a but of progress. My son worked on the deer, I worked on the brown grass, and my husband worked on the plow.

The next day though it started to feel like we were stuck. We could not get more than a couple pieces to fit at a time. My husband said how it seemed like it should be obvious because all of the pieces are right there in front of us, yet we all struggled to figure out how to make them fit together.

The Reason

I’ve seen the phrase “Jesus is the reason for the season” for many years during December. I’ve always liked this reminder on signs and pins. But what about after December 25? A day anticipated by many is now over. So much time, money, and preparations are involved, and it’s already over for another year. What happens the next day?

A Thanksgiving week challenge

I had a special opportunity helping at the school last week. The principal had the idea for each child to write two thank you notes. We went to the classrooms, surprising the teachers, asking them to leave and go enjoy a snack in the teachers’ lounge. After they left we told the plan to the students and let them get to work on the notes. They wrote one note to one of their grade level teachers. The other was for someone else who works at the school like the music teacher, instructional aides, nurse, custodians, or cafeteria workers.

Being still

As the weeks of this pregnancy have progressed, I’ve started to feel tiny baby movements. I wasn’t sure at first, but now I’m pretty sure the baby is what I’m feeling. Some days I realize it’s been a while since I’ve noticed feeling anything. I know at this point I won’t feel as much movement as when I’m further along. But I’ve noticed that when I’m busy I don’t notice them. I’m more likely to feel them when I’m still, sitting on the couch relaxing or at the table enjoying a meal.

Made for a purpose

Recently my husband and son ripped the old carpet out of the extra room which will be the new baby's room. My husband decided to take off the baseboards and had a tool to do this called a pry bar  When he started he realized this tool was not going to work! These baseboards had been screwed into the steel framing of the house.  He had to use his electric drill to unscrew them.  The pry bar caused the first baseboard to crack in half. On the other hand, with the drill the baseboards came off quickly and efficiently.

Encouraged by four little words

At the end of August we found out we are having another baby! We are thankful and excited, but I’ve felt nervous too because of our previous miscarriages. We went to our first doctor’s appointment on September 11. We saw our little baby, and it filled us with joy to see that little heart beating strongly on the screen.

Making Assumptions

We went to the first high school football game of the season recently. A few minutes into the game, I saw a player rushing to the sidelines. He was holding his mouth and looked like there was quite a lot of blood. They sat him on the bench and worked on him. Then I saw him walking off the field, still holding a rag to his mouth.
Not long after, a man (I’ll call him Man A) started down the stairs. When he got to the row in front of us he turned back around and told the people behind us that another player had busted the boy’s chin strap through his chin and his chin was all torn up. He proceeded down the bleacher stairs. Well a few minutes later he came back up the stairs. A man (Man B) with noticeable physical limitations was in the way, trying to maneuver from the hand rail of the stairs to his seat and being helped by another man (Man C).

Ten years later

Over the past few weeks I’ve been thinking a lot about a decade and how quickly that length of time passes. As I think back ten years, there have been so many changes for me and our family. You see, tomorrow our boy will turn ten years old…two hands….a decade!

Today I'm over at Laced With Grace sharing "Ten Years Later. "

Do you have a church family?

Last week we had two members of our church pass from this life to their heavenly home. We had been praying for these two individuals for some time and expected they did not have much time left here on earth. On the days of their services the church family provided meals for the grieving family members. Everyone came together to provide the meals and offer support to these two families.
Looking back at the week, I have been thinking how it is such a blessing to have a church family. This is just one example of the love and support that a church family can provide.

Beauty & Blessings

As we traveled on our vacation we did a lot of driving. We split up the trip from Texas to Tennessee with stops along the way. Then once we were in Tennessee we had the new experience of driving through the beautiful mountains.

Today I'm sharing a devotional thought over at Laced With Grace. Click here to continue reading it now.

Is there room?

Summer can be a busy time for all of us.  If you have kids at home you probably have a different schedule than the other months of the year.  Are you making room for Jesus?

Time for some cleaning

We cleaned out our closet a couple Saturdays ago. My husband worked a long time on his side and then I worked on my side. We found some things we could get rid of and got it looking nice in there. We could see the floor again! It is always such a good feeling to have it cleaned out.
I don’t like it to get messy, but sometimes it happens. I have already realized how fast it can go back to being messy.

Continuing to Hide God's Word

Did you memorize scripture when you were a child? Maybe you learned a new verse each week in Sunday School and got a sticker on a chart. Have you continued learning scriptures as an adult? Today over at Laced with Grace I share some tips that helped me learn Colossians 3 in 2013.

Press Pause

You are more than likely getting ready for a Thanksgiving celebration for tomorrow with pies in the oven and plans for turkey, dressing, and sweet potatoes. It seems like everyone is in a frenzy to get through Thanksgiving so they can start the Christmas decorating. (And I know many who have already started.) Everyone is rushing around trying to have the perfect meal, best decorations, perfect gifts, or most wonderful holiday parties and putting so much into these things that the enjoyment is lost along the way.

What is your weakness?

It seems like in this society nobody wants to let others know their weaknesses. Sometimes we even go to great lengths to hide these weaknesses to keep others from knowing the truth. We all have some, but too often we forget that and think we are the only ones. We fear others may not like us or accept us, so we keep these weaknesses a secret.
