Thankful Thursday

Thank you for stopping by my blog today for Thankful Thursday.

This week I am thankful for...
~  my sweet husband.  Today I appreciate his knowledge.  When I hear him talking to someone about his work "stuff," I have no clue!  He knows so much about so many different areas.

~ the wonderful report on our boy during our parent/teacher conference this week.  Monday was a day off for my boy, and the school had conferences scheduled that day.  His teacher had such nice things to say about him and his behavior and attitude.  We are also proud of his reading.  The first six weeks he has read over 300,000 words.  The goal is to be a "Million Word Reader."   This is through the Accelerated Reader program.

~  seeing former teachers and classmates at my 15 year high school reunion.  I think these relationships are important.  Coming from a small school, we grew up together and spent so much of our life together.  I know everyone doesn't have that sort of relationship with their classmates and teachers, and I'm thankful I do.

~ the signs of fall....cooler temperatures, acorns, pumpkins, leaves changing colors.  I enjoy this time of year!  And I'm thankful God gave us seasons.

~ nice time with ladies from our church Monday night at our Bible study.  We meet once a month, and this is always an enjoyable time.

Also, if you did not see my review in the post below, I encourage you to check it out.  If you are looking for a great study to do by yourself or with a group of women, I recommend the book and DVD experience called She's Got Issues.

This month for Thankful Thursday we are meeting at Women Taking a Stand.  Join us!

Have a day of blessings!

High School Reunion Weekend and Repacking

We went to my 10 year high school reunion this weekend. We really enjoyed it, and it was nice to see old friends. When we graduated, my classmates asked me to be in charge of planning this thing so that is what I've been doing since the beginning of this year. I had a great group helping me with the planning, making contacts, and getting things together.

I have made a few observations while planning and attending the reunion. In the planning I learned to always have a back-up plan in place. Our lunch worked out perfectly at the middle school (see previous blog post!) but next time I plan something I will make sure I have a "just in case" back-up location. For the most part my classmates haven't changed much in the past 10 years. Some looked exactly the same, some had put on a few pounds or lost some hair. Their personalities were exaclty how I remembered them though. Something else I noticed was when we sat down to eat, everyone sat with the same "groups" they sat with in high school. It is nice to know I still have connections with my old school friends. It was a good feeling to be able to reconnect with some of them and share our lives, spouses, and children. After it was all over, it gave me a strange feeling to think that at our 20 year reunion we'll be 38 and Caleb will be a teenager! That is crazy!

We're repacking now to go to Dallas for a few days. I'll update sometime when we get back.

I hope you have a blessed week.

Change of Plans

As some of you may know I'm coordinating my 10 year high school reunion. The "big event" will take place next Saturday. Things have gone really well. I've had several people helping me contact people and do various jobs to prepare. We knew all along the high school (where we are having the lunch) was under construction. The secretary told me to call the week before and find out how they were coming along. Today the principal said it won't be available for us to have our lunch. Now we are on to plan B!

I've been praying all along that everything comes together and all works out. This was a surprise to find out a little more than a week before we're meeting. But I was proud of myself for remaining calm.

One thing I've learned from my Mom is remaining calm in any situation. She is such a calm person. Many times people have commented on how she stays calm even with parents yelling in her face (she's a school secretary) or rude teachers that demand her attention when she's in the middle of something else. She's always been this way.

I've seen some people get hysterical about something that doesn't really matter. I hope I am a calm person. I try to remember to think of the bigger picture. Will it really matter in 10 years where my reunion was held? Or for that matter will this matter next week, tomorrow, or in one hour?

Everyday things come up that can take us by surprise. Unexpected guests stop by. It rains when we had planned to go to the zoo. Traffic is backed up and makes you late getting home. The grocery store is packed, the baby doesn't get home at naptime, falls asleep in the car, and wakes up when you get home, not wanting to go back to sleep. Remind yourself that things happen for a reason. Take a breath, smile, and adjust your day.
