Proverbs & Prayers Week #20

Myspace Comments

Hello and welcome to my little blog. I'm glad you are here today. I pray you are having a beautiful weekend. The weather here has been so nice and I've enjoyed the time with my boys.

This week's verse is Romans 13:12--
"The night is nearly over, the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light."

This passage got me thinking about the difference in darkness and light. Verse 13 goes on to list things to avoid in the darkness ("not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy"). Instead we are to be clothed with light and Jesus. If you are doing something that is sin that you know you really shouldn't be doing, you don't go stand on the sidewalk in the bright sunshine and make it known to your neighbors. You hide in your home. It is easier to do these things in darkness when we think no one will see and no one is going to find out. As Christians, we need to "put on" light.

For a prayer request this week I'd like to have for wisdom and peace for a special situation regarding me and my hubby. Thank you.

Proverbs & Prayers: Week #52

We made it to the last week of 2009! Thank you to those who have participated. I started off the first few months memorizing these verses word for word. I have not kept this up all year long, some I just read over multiple times or said in my head a few times in the week. There are so many good verses in Proverbs and I've enjoyed learning these verses.

This week's verse is Proverbs 31:8--

"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute."

Here are some prayer requests for this week--

~ Denise and her husband Eddie. These two really need our prayers. You can read updates on Denise's blog.

May God bless you today and all week! I appreciate you.

I am not sure what I will do for 2010 yet. Any ideas you'd like to share of what you are doing to memorize scripture?

Proverbs & Prayers: Week #47

The verse for this week is Proverbs 26:20--

"Without wood a fire goes out; without gossip a quarrel dies down."

Isn't this such a wonderful nugget of truth? How many problems would be solved if we would just quit adding wood to the fire and keep our mouths shut? This is a good verse to think about this week.

I have some prayer requests to share also. Please let me know if you have any to add.

~ Kristi's daughter Rachel is having surgery on November 24. I'd like to ask you to go by and leave Kristi a comment to let her know you are praying for her and Rachel. It must be hard on her heart as a Mom. I know from reading her entries that she has full faith in God. I'm sure she'd appreciate the encouragement as well.

~ our personal friend Amy's son Cade is having surgery this week on November 24 as well.

~ Orion's family as they have their first Thanksgiving without him.

~ our troops and their families. Let's never forget to pray for them.

~ safe travel for those traveling on Thanksgiving.

Thank you for visiting today for Spiritual Sundays. I hope you have a wonderful week full of thankfulness!

Proverbs & Prayers Week #46

Today's verse for this week is Proverbs 25:28--

"Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control."

Do you have any prayer requests to share this week?

Please pray for the following needs:

~ Kristi's daughter Rachel and her upcoming surgery on the 24th.

~ Cade, a little 1 year old who is having surgery on the 24th also.

~ Luke, collapsed lung.

~ my sweet Caleb. He ran a high fever on Saturday. If you didn't read my Thankful Thursday post this week, I'll tell you what is going on.....When he got home from school Tuesday, he had a high fever. We took him to the doctor and he did test negative for the flu. The fever was mild on Wednesday and Thursday he started acting more like himself. Friday he felt well and went to school. Saturday morning he acted okay. He woke up early and was getting grumpy so I had him lay down by me and we slept a while. When he woke up, we noticed he felt warm and he had a high fever. We monitored it all day, and he spent most of the day on the couch. He was up a lot in the night but had no fever. This morning he acts totally fine. So we're praying for wisdom to know what to do and how to treat him.

Proverbs & Prayers Week #44

This week's verse is Proverbs 24:11, 12:--

"Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter. If you say, 'But we knew nothing about this," does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay each person according to what he has done?"

This is a longer verse and really more of one to make you think. It's made me think anyway. When I was reading through Proverbs to choose the verses for this year, this verse made me think about those babies who lose their lives to abortions. It just really spoke to me that my voice does matter, and I should speak up to protect the lives of the innocent. This is just what it made me think of as I read it. You may think of others you need to help who are "being led away to death."

Do you have any prayer requests this week?

Please remember the following in prayer:

~ Orion's family. They plan to have a private ceremony this week on the one month anniversary of Orion's death where they will plant a tree and bury his ashes.

~ Jo, a lady at our church. She thought she had a kidney stone and at the hospital found out she has bone cancer.

Thank you for praying with me.

Have a day of blessings!

Please share any prayer requests you have by leaving a comment. I have a few to share this week that I want to remind you to pray for as you pray this week:

~ Katie and Clayton....young children battling brain tumors.

~ Orion's family. I visited them last week. Continue to lift them up as they live without their son.

~ Christine, Debbie's sister. Pray for complete healing of her eyesight.

~ Kristi's family and daughter Rachel.

Thank you for joining me in prayer. I hope this is the beginning of a wonderful last week of October for you!

Proverbs & Prayers Week #42

This week's verse is found in Proverbs 22:17, 18:

"Pay attention and listen to the sayings of the wise; apply your heart to what I teach, for it is pleasing when you keep them in your heart and have all of them ready on your lips."

Please let me know if you have a prayer request. I'd be happy to pray for you. I do not have any new ones to mention at this time for this week.

Proverbs & Prayers: Week #41

This week's verse is from Proverbs 21:30--

"There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord."

Let me know if you have a prayer request this week. I'd be happy to pray for you.

Please remember in prayer:

~ Orion's family. Orion went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday at the age of 4 1/2 years. The services were on Friday. Please keep his family lifted in prayer. His Mommy has been with him at the hospital for the past two months so pray for her as she adjusts to being back at home.

Proverbs & Prayers: Week #40

Already week 40 of the year 2009 is here? That means only 12 weeks left of this year!

This week's verse is Proverbs 21:29--

"A wicked man puts up a bold front, but an upright man gives thought to his ways."

Please let me know if you have any prayer requests this week. (I'm posting this early so I may come back later and add more.)

I do have a couple of praises to share:

~ Melanie's cancer in remission.

~ Orion is showing some improvements this past week. There is talk that he may get to go home.

~ Remember when I shared about being stuck in traffic due to a tragic accident? Well I heard another story about this accident this week and had to share. At the local food pantry where I volunteer one of the men showed me a freezer full of roasts they'd been given last week by another food pantry in town. Our food pantry wasn't going to have enough meat this week to give around during the food distribution on Thursday but now they had these roasts to pass out! The man thought the roasts were from the 18 wheeler that had been involved in the accident last week. This is one good thing in the midst of such tragedy that blessed many families.

I'll share this week about our weekend trip and also have Marriage Monday this week plus some more book reviews.

Have a day of blessings!

Proverbs & Prayers: Week #39

This week's verse is another one about the words we say. It is Proverbs 21:23--

"He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from calamity."

Please share prayer requests this week and join me in praying for these requests too.

~ Orion. His MRI last week showed the tumor to not have any significant changes at this time and they plan to do 5 more radiation treatments then wean him off the steroids.

~ Rachel, Kristi's daughter.

~ Michele and her family.

~ Denise.

~ family whose twins died. I received this request in an email this week. A couple who'd previously lost twins late in pregnancy found their 2 year old twin sons had died in the night due to air conditioning/heating system malfunction. So tragic.

There are many others I've read about this week. There is power in prayer. I'm so thankful we can talk to our Father about these needs.

Thanks for stopping by today. I plan to post some book reviews this week as I'm finishing up some books. Also I'll have a Laced with Grace devotional on Wednesday. I look forward to visiting you this week.

Have a day of blessings!

Proverbs & Prayers: Week #38

This week's memory verse is Proverbs 21:21--

"He who pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity, and honor."

~ Maxey family in the loss of their daughter, Annette, this past week. They had another daughter, Madeline, who died in 2004.

~ Continued prayers for Orion. Pray for his parents as they continue to be on an emotional roller coaster. It seems they see a little bit of progress in one area and then a decline in another area. Pray for Orion's brother and sister as well as they are having to be separated from their parents right now as they are at the hospital with Orion.

~ Kristi's daughter, Rachel.

~ friend Jeana.

~ Christine, Debbie's sister, as she recovers from her surgery. Pray for her eye sight.

~ my friend Pamela had a friend pass away recently. She was a young mother. Pray for her children and husband.

~ our country. I was directed to this blog post (Thanks, Christy). I did not know this was happening. Read it for yourself and see how our country needs Christians to pray.

I'm joining in to share these prayer requests on Spiritual Sundays today.

Proverbs & Prayers: Week #35

Here is the new verse for this coming week. It is Proverbs 19:17--

"He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward him for what he has done."

Please pray with me about the following requests and also let me know if I can pray for YOU.

~ Orion and family. He was dismissed from the hospital but had to be readmitted the next day because he wasn't able to swallow. Surgery is scheduled for Sept. 8 for a feeding tube in his stomach (as I understand it). Pray for his parents as they are there with him mostly 24/7 and for his sister, brother and other family members as they are going through this hard time.

~ Elizabeth. Recently had another brain surgery and will begin radiation soon.

~ Kate and Clayton, both of these children also have brain tumors.

Adding a couple more:
~ family who lost a baby recently, you can read that prayer request here.

~ Rachel and her family. This is Kristi's daughter. Go leave them some encouragement and also she has a button you can put on your blog.

Hope the end of August and beginning of September go well for you this week!

Proverbs & Prayers: Week #34

Here is the new memory verse for this week.

Proverbs 18:5--"It is not good to be partial to the wicked or to deprive the innocent of justice."

Do you have any prayer requests this week? Here are some requests I'd like to share:

~ those heading to school, especially my sweet little boy! (And Mommy while he is at school! I have plans and know I'll adjust to our new schedule/routine. I have a special post about that tomorrow.)

~ our friends and their little boy Orion. We've been able to visit with them over the past few days as they've been in the hospital with him. He's had a couple days of radiation and they are hoping they'll get to go home on Monday or Tuesday. Then they will travel back and forth daily for radiation treatments.

~ our sister-in-law who is expecting their first child. She is getting close to her due date.

Have a great week as we are close to finishing the month of August!
