Prayers & Promises Week #47

It's Thanksgiving week! We are totally excited that we get to move this week! And I'm excited to share that new with you today as so many of you have been praying for us through this entire process. It's hard to believe that in a couple months it will be a year that my husband and I have been praying, planning, and anticipating this move.

This year as we made our thankful list together as a family, I noticed how are list was so different this year from last year. I'm thankful for the lessons we have all learned through this process....trusting God, appreciating the time we have together and not taking for granted eating supper as a family (even without a kitchen table cause I sold it on Craigslist!!).

On Saturday we found out that the offer we made on a house we saw last weekend was accepted. We are excited about this house and it's location. Caleb is excited to be able to watch the deer. When we looked at the house, he found deer tracks. Since the house is empty they are letting us do a short term lease so we can move on Friday! Then when the paperwork is ready in December we will sign the papers to buy it. I love how this worked out!

This week's verse is Psalm 47:6--
"Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises."

~ our military and their families, especially those who are away this week. I was excited to read on Facebook that one of the soldiers from our church came home for a couple weeks today, surprising his wife and meeting their newborn son for the first time.

Prayers & Promises Week #44

For November my theme for verses will be praise. The verse this week is Psalm 9:1--
"I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders."

Pause and consider the wonders of the Lord that you have witnessed today. Praise Him for all He has done!

Prayers and Promises Week #43

This week's verse is Psalm 103:2, 3--
"Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits--
who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases."

Here are some prayer requests I would like to share with you:

~ I saw on Facebook on Friday a prayer request and want to ask you to pray for this family. I was in choir with these sisters (one was a couple years younger and the other a few years older than me). One of the girls said her Mom's cancer had spread to her brain, a tumor burst in her brain and she has a brain bleed. She was care flighted to Lubbock and a recent post said the doctors gave her a few days to live. This family has been on my heart, and I ask you to pray for them to be comforted at this difficult time as well as for those caring for their Mom, Joyce.

~ Another Facebook prayer request! Many of you probably know Michele-- she said their heater went out and the repairman is coming Tuesday, they have a space heater to use till then. Where she lives it's already in the 30s/40s at night, so pray for it not to be too cold and also for the repair not to be expensive.

~ Denise (Shortybear).

~ Still waiting on our new house. We have the duplex pretty much packed up besides a few things we are using in the kitchen and bathroom. We are just waiting now. To be honest we can't see with our eyes how this is going to work, but we are praying we could close somehow this week....that is really what we want to happen and feel like needs to happen for my husband to start his new position on November 1. It is going to have to be God for it to all come together this week though; we can't do it ourselves obviously. We had things planned how we thought they would work for the move, and it hasn't gone like that. I read in a devotional book today about the man who asked for his son to be healed of the evil spirit (Mark 9:14-32). The dad said to Jesus, "But if you can do anything...." I was reminded that our prayers to God about this do not need to be "if you can." We trust Him and seek His will in all of this.

Prayers and Promises Week #42

This week's verse is Colossians 3:13. It is another one about forgiveness that is familiar; it's good to be reminded of the importance of forgiveness.

"Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you."

~ Alexis, a young girl battling a brain tumor. Pray for her and her parents.

~ our military and their families back home.

~ Leslie's family. I read this prayer request on Kelly's blog recently. I've been praying for this family in their devastating losses.

~ Regarding our move there are several things: We need definite answers on our house closing. We were asked to extend the contract to the 22nd, which is this Friday. We don't have a definite answer on closing though. We really need it to be this week due to our schedules and the time we have before my hubby has to be at his new office. Another prayer is for my husband as he begins his new role in a management position. Pray for wisdom as he will be in this new position. We pray for us to find a new church home. We are also praying for this to be a smooth transition for our son as he will be in a new school.

Prayers and Promises Week #41

This week's verse is Psalm 79:9--
"Help us, O God our Savior, for the glory of your name; deliver us and forgive our sins for your name's sake."

There are so many hurting people around us. Take note of those around you this week who may be hurting and may be just needing someone to reach out with a simple act of care to show them they matter. Here are some people to think about that may need you to be Jesus to them this week....

~ a lonely elderly person. Go for a visit "just because" and let them know they matter.
~ a widow. Send a card just to say "I'm thinking of you."
~ a family with a loved one battling cancer. Come beside them and give them an encouraging word or prayer.
~ the clerk at the grocery store. Be appreciative of the job they do for you.
~ your coworker. Notice when they do a good job on a task this week.
~ your preacher. Give him a simple thank you for what he does each week.
~ a new Mom. Take her a meal or offer to run some errands for her.
~ your child's teacher. You don't have to wait until Christmas or the end of the year to tell him/her you appreciate what he/she does daily for your child.
~ a teenager. Let one in your life know you are proud of them and the stand they take for Christ. Let them know you notice them. There are too many sad, depressed teens today who are taking their own lives. I encourage you to do something this week to make a difference in the life of someone you encounter on a regular basis.

Also, I'd like to ask that you please pray for us. We were supposed to close on our new house on Monday; however, the Texas Attorney General has put a freeze on the sale of all foreclosures, which includes the house we are buying. We don't know how long this will delay us. We trust God has a plan as He continues to teach us to just trust Him. We know He's faithful.

Prayers and Promises Week #40

Week #40! Wow, it will be Christmas before we know it!

For October my theme for verses will be forgiveness. This week's verse is one that is familiar from Matthew 6:6--"Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors."

This week please remember in prayer:

~ Orion's family as this week will be one year since Orion went to be with Jesus.

~ Denise (Shortybear) and her family.

~ our family in the moving process. We have many things that need to work out timing wise. One of those things we just found out about on Thursday and needing a stove, possibly before closing. We knew were were going to be buying one but aren't sure if it has to be before we close or not. Closing is Oct. 11, that's so soon and we are excited!

Prayers and Promises Week #39

For this week's verse for the last week of the theme "glory" in September, the verse is Psalm 24:9,10--

"Lift up your heads, O you gates; lift them up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is he, this King of glory? The Lord Almighty--he is the King of glory. Selah."

Prayers & Promises Week #38

This week I chose a verse to use that I've used previously this year for a different theme. It is Ephesians 3:20, 21.

"Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen."

We are so thankful for all God has done for our family and how He has worked everything out with our move and my husband's job. We could not have done this on our own. To God alone be the glory! We are excited to begin the next chapter.

Prayers and Promises Week #37

This week's verse is Psalm 96:3--
"Declare His glory among the nations, His marvelous deeds among all peoples."

Please remember the following in prayer:
~ family of Levi. Levi was born this week and went home to Heaven shortly after he was born.

~ my cousin as he recovers from surgery. He had a kidney removed last Tuesday. He's had some trouble so please pray for everything to function as it should so he does not have to have another surgery this week.

~ Also I have a praise for many new babies born this week. I had several friends who have had babies in the past couples weeks or are about to have the babies. I'm thankful for these new children!

~ those dealing with issues from flooding here in Texas. We just received a lot of rain here, no damage or anything.

Prayers and Promises Week #35

For the month of August the theme for the verses will be glory/glorify. I've chosen this theme because I have been thinking lately about how God can be glorified through the various trials we go through even though it is hard on us. So my prayer is that He will receive the glory for all that happens, whatever that may be.

This week's verse is I Peter 1:6, 7.
"In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith--of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire--may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory, and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed."

Prayer requests for this week:
~ John and Elaine, John is battling cancer. The doctors don't have anything else to do for him. Pray for him and his wife, she is devastated.

~ Anderson, a young boy also battling cancer.

~ my husband.

I'm so thankful that He is faithful!

"Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promises is faithful." Hebrews 11:24

~ Wills' family. I mentioned Wills last week. He passed away last week and his service was yesterday. Pray for his family...parents, siblings, and many friends.

Prayers & Promises Week #33

This week's verse is Psalm 33:17, 18---
"A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save. But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love."


When I found this verse, it made me think about all the things we hope in everyday. In our society we don't rely on horses as in the time this passage was written, but we get the idea...it is silly to put our hope in _______ for deliverance. What do you use in your own life to fill in this blank? What are you putting your hope in? If it is not in the Lord, then it is vain, whatever it may be. The next verse goes on to say that the Lord wants us to fear Him and hope in His unfailing love. We don't have to hope in any thing or person. We can rely and lean on the Lord.

So many people around us don't have this hope. I cannot imagine how they can face the struggles and heartaches of life depending on their own strength. The Lord is the only Way!

There are so many prayer requests for people this week. I'll share a few.
~ Wills. I've asked for prayers for him before. He is a 22 year old young man who was undergoing treatments for cancer. His situation is serious; my childhood hometown is all praying for him and his family.

~ twins I mentioned last week. These newborn twins were born 14 weeks premature. This week they are both improving though! It was encouraging to hear the reports on them.

~ John and Elaine. John had a scan recently that showed tumor growth and a new tumor. He was one of my former buddies through Audrey's Umbrella and I've kept up with him on Facebook through his wife Elaine. She posted this week that they sent him home on hospice care and there is nothing left to do for him the doctors say.

~ those starting back to school. We have one more week here in Texas before the students start, but the teachers will be starting this week. Pray for them as they go back to the classroom and prepare for a new year with new children.

~ also those going to college and their families.

Prayers and Promises Week #32

Here is the verse for this week:
"'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to give you hope and a future.' " Jeremiah 29:11

Some things to pray for this week:
~ students (and their families) who are preparing to go off to college this week and next. I know my "little" brother in law will be moving into his dorm next weekend.

~ our youth minister and family is leaving, they are going to a new church where he will be the preacher. We are excited for them at this new ministry but will miss them. They've been here nearly 10 years. They are moving this week. Pray for them as they move and for their house here to sale.

~ premature twins born to one of our church families. The little boys (Jonathan and Joshua) weighed less than 2 pounds each.

~ those serving in the military and their families. I have another friend from high school whose husband will be deploying soon.

~ my husband. He pulled a muscle while trying to learn to ski Saturday.

Prayers & Promises Week #29

Today I have a verse to share with you from Romans 1:20--
"For since the creation of the world, God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse."

It is interesting to read this passage in context. When I think of this verse, I think of seeing the beauty of creation and realizing Who made it all. The wicked and godless don't glorify God though as the Creator, they make their own things to worship (vs. 21).

This week I have some prayer requests to share as well.
~ Wills, a young man (in his early 20s) undergoing treatments for cancer.

~ families that have recently lost loved their loved ones Dennis and Michael.

~ our family in our move. We close July 26. One more week here!

Prayers & Promises Week #28

I hope you have had a good week. We received rain most every day lately.

This week's verse is 2 Corinthians 4:7--
"But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us."

We need to be reminded that we are just clay jars. We are nothing without Him.

For prayer requests this week, please remember:
~ my little friend Anderson. He had been in ICU nearly 60 days and was able to come home last week. Friday was his 5th birthday. Pray for him and his family as they adjust to being at home again.

~ our family as we are preparing to move, especially for it all to be smooth for Caleb.

Prayers & Promises Week #27

I hope you are enjoying this wonderful weekend. We enjoyed a parade Saturday morning and look forward to fireworks Sunday night. I think it is a wonderful thing to remember and celebrate our country. I love seeing my fellow Americans proudly wearing their red, white, and blue. We drove down one street in our town where all the houses had small flags in the ground along their front curb, which was great to see. I am proud to be an American and thankful for those who serve our country with such bravery and dedication.

For July I am using the theme of power for my verses each week. This week's verse is Ephesians 1:18, 19--

"I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe."

As Paul is telling the people of Ephesus, we who believe have been given something great. Verse 19 goes on to say "That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms...." I think many times we take that power we've been given for granted. I know I forget. I hope these verses this month will remind us of God's power.

For the prayers today, please remember to pray for our soldiers and their families who are serving our country. We have a man at our church who will be heading to Afghanistan on Wednesday so say a prayer for him and his wife (who is pregnant with their first child) and his other family. Also, remember to pray for the leaders of our country.
