Information from FFB

Do you take your eyesight for granted?  Did you know that every year nearly 10 million Americans go blind due to AMD or Age-related Macular Degeneration?   I did not know this or know what AMD is.  It is important to take care of our eyes. Read below to find out more.

The exciting news is that a cure is in sight! What can you do to help?

The Foundation Fighting Blindness, a non-profit organization, has provided funding for research on cures for blindness, specifically AMD, since 1971. In fact, with the research FFB has already made possible, treatments to stop and in some cases even reverse retinal disease is a reality.

This is great news for people over 55 and their families. With AMD it is nearly impossible for grandparents to enjoy the little things in life such as playing games, watching movies and reading to their grandchildren. However, due to innovative research, those things are once again possible for many people…but, we need to continue this outreach, support additional research and find cures.

This is why our campaign focus is on ‘Driving Research & SAVING SIGHT!’.

Book #22: 7 Simple Steps...

I finally finished another book for my list. I have two others started and should be finishing one more of those soon.

This one is called 7 Steps to a Healthier You by Dawn Hall. My friend gave me this book a while back, and it has been in my pile of books I wanted to read.

As I was reading I marked a couple of things I wanted to share. The first one is that all of us are unique individuals. Sometimes we try to fit into a mold of what we are supposed to be and a plan of how we are supposed to get there. That mold might not be meant for us and the plan may not benefit us either. The author gave examples of various weight loss programs as an example and why many of them didn't work for her.

Another thing I marked was a line in one of the prayers at the end of a chapter. It says, " When I ignore my health, I am rejecting the miracle of me. When I don't think I am worth the effort, I am denying the potential You planted inside of me." This put caring about my health in a new perspective for me.

The final thing I wanted to share was in the chapter about getting spiritually fit. It says, "Pure contentment is born out of a peace that takes deep root within and cannot be disturbed by life's ups and downs. It is an ever-present, lasting force in a satisfied life." I loved this because it is always my desire to live a life of contentment.

This was a good read with short chapters and easy to follow format.

Sleep study

My husband had a sleep study done back in March. Originally it was scheduled for February but it ended up being the days after we were getting over the flu. We went with him to his doctor appointment to find out the results at the beginning of April. He definitely has obstructive sleep apnea. The numbers the doctor gave us were rather high above the normal range.

It has been rather interesting to me to pay attention to his snoring and hear the patterns in his breathing. Lately I haven't noticed his snoring as much, so I don't know if I'm just more tired and fall asleep before him or if he's snoring less.

He has a titration study done next to determine if he can be fitted with the CPAP. We were looking at some online, they are rather funny looking!

Hopefully this would help him feel less fatigued during the day. He did not feel like he slept the first time he went so he is just ready to be done with this part.
