Shoe box time!

It is time to start packing those shoe boxes again for Operation Christmas Child. I saw Susan's recent post about this and knew it was that time of year to do a post myself!

If you have never participated before, I encourage you to go to the Samaritan's Purse website for all the information you need. They make it really easy with their step-by-step directions. National Collection Week is November 15-22 so you still have a couple of weeks to gather items and get your shoe boxes ready to ship to a child. You can find a drop off location in your area on the website as well.

We have found that this is a great activity to do as a family. We let Caleb chose items appropriate for a boy his age.

Pack a shoe box!

Are you going to pack a shoe box this year for Operation Christmas Child? I wrote about this last year and wanted to remind you it is that time again. It always seems to sneak up on me that it is time to get the shoe box ready. Caleb will help pick things out for ours.

If you have never filled a shoe box for a child and you're wondering what I'm talking about, please go to the Samaritan's Purse website to find out more about Operation Christmas Child. The website will tell you what to put in your box and where to drop it off. The collection dates this year are November 16-23.

Shoebox reminder!

This is the collection week for shoe boxes if you are making one for Operation Christmas Child.

We had fun finding things to fill our boxes this year. This is such a wonderful project to do as a family because of the many lessons you can teach as you fill your box.

Just wanted to remind you to turn in your shoe box! You still have time to make one if you haven't yet too. :)

Fill those shoe boxes!

It is time to start thinking about filling shoe boxes for Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child! I saw a picture on Susan's sidebar recently, and it reminded me to get started on our shoe box.

If you have never participated, this is a great program to reach out to children in other countries in an easy way. I like it because the whole family can participate in the project. Basically what you do is get an empty shoe box and decide if you want your box to be for a boy or girl and the age group. Wrap the shoe box in Christmas wrap. Then you fill the shoe box with items like a toothbrush, comb, car, doll, ball, crayons, or candy. You can get step-by-step directions as well as a long list of suggested items to use in the box at the Operation Christmas Child site under "Pack a shoe box" (see link above or on side bar). When you fill your box, find a drop off location in your area (also found on the site by entering your zip code). You add a check for $7 to cover shipping costs. This year the collection week is November 17-24.

This is a fun program. I wanted to share about it today so you could consider being involved with your family if you are not already. You can do one box or ten. It also makes a great project for church groups or kids' groups to do.
