Bible study review: Habakkuk

I'm excited to share this new Bible study with you today.  The timing could not be better for this message in my opinion.

“The book of Habakkuk, named after its author, is about learning to believe that God is good and maintains control even when there is so much evil and tragedy in the world around us,” says Dannah Gresh, author of the new Bible study, Habakkuk: Remembering God’s Faithfulness When He Seems Silent (Moody Publishers, September 2020). “We need the lessons of Habakkuk always, but in an urgent and desperate way right now.”

About Habakkuk

In her Bible study for women, Gresh weaves together weekly podcasts (available online), Bible study, daily Scripture reading, discussion questions, and more to help women understand how Habakkuk went from a life of doubting, fearing, and questioning God to one of living by faith. It’s Gresh’s hope that women will remember how God has been faithful in the past and will gain perspective on the trials, both large and small, that they’re currently facing, learning how to navigate them free of fear and full of joy.

My thoughts:

I thought the description of this study sounded interesting and timely.  And to be honest I liked the cover too!  I was somewhat hesitant to agree to review it because I don't really know anything about Habakkuk.  I felt like this was a great reason though to try it out so I could learn something new.  I have definitely learned through this study.

I have never done a study quite like this one. First, it is over a subject I know very little about. I am sure I’ve read Habakkuk but never with the understanding I now have. Second, I really like that it has a podcast with it to go with each week. These are encouraging and you can listen anytime online. They go well with the week’s lesson too. Third, history has never been “my thing.” I like that they have a time line and part of the lessons involves filling in blanks on the timeline. This is helpful to me.

This is a six week study with a different meditation for each day.

I have marked many things that have stuck out to me. Here are a couple:

Until we make our hearts right before God, we will be unable to hear his voice clearly. Sometimes that is the message in the silence.

So much about what God has ahead for us is tied to what God has already done!

I received a copy of this book for my honest review from Moody Publishers.
 Thank you.

Have a day of blessings!
