I thought of something interesting tonight, it struck me as a funny thing. We've been careful not to give Caleb guns or weapons. He doesn't have any water guns, swords, etc. This is something we decided and so far it has worked for us. With his Daddy being a hunter I know he will eventually know all about guns. I'm also confident that he'll have his Daddy to teach him hunter's safety one day. But for now we don't have guns. He has come up with things on his own, which I've heard from other Mom's of boys is normal! He pretends he has his own pocket knife and talks about the day when he's bigger and he'll get a REAL pocket knife.
Tonight we took him to a "family entertainment" place which has a buffet and various games to win tickets for prizes. He chose a whistle and then I pointed out the snakes. It is one of those plastic bendy snakes with sticker dots on each section. I didn't know if he'd want that or not but he said yes. When we were in the car driving home, he was saying how he liked snakes and he would touch them if he saw one and how he did touch one before (he reached down and put his finger on a little garden snake of some sort in our driveway one night). We told them how they're dangerous and have sharp teeth. I thought how anytime we see a picture of a snake we'll tell him we never touch them and come tell us. Then we let him get a plastic one to play with. I had not really compared this with our gun rule but tonight thought it was similar. I found it interesting also that by the time we were home Caleb wasn't sure he wanted the snake and didn't want to play with it anymore. I guess he was listening to what we were saying about their dangers and decided he didn't like them much.
I'm not sure exactly what the point of this post is. It was just something I was thinking about tonight.

I like it! I read your blog to my mom. She said it was cute. :) I like what you were saying. It shows the positive influence you have on him and his decisions. Good job!! :)
Good post. It shows you are thinking about the things you are teaching your son - and that's such a good thing. Good job, Mom.
Smiles.
