Beth Moore study: "Removing the Obstacles"

I've been attending a Beth Moore Bible study called Breaking Free. It has been a blessing to attend and participate in this study. I feel like I'm learning so much about God and His Word! I'm thankful for my friend inviting me to join her.

The theme for last week's lessons (which was discussed last night) was called "Removing the Obstacles." Moore has five obstacles that keep us from living in the freedom God has for our lives (these were discussed during a previous lesson). The five obstacles are unbelief, pride, idolatry, prayerlessness, and legalism.

Last night's lesson was on prayer. She made some wonderful points that I'd like to share here today.

In the lesson she shows the connection between prayer and peace. See Philippians 4:6, 7----
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Our lives are hindered when we live prayerless lives. Is it any wonder we go around in confusion and anxiety when we aren't taking the matters of our hearts to the Lord? She includes a list of people from the Bible who prayed from Abraham to Jesus. If our Savior needed to pray, how much more do I? I loved her analogy to the Christmas lights. Our lights aren't going to be on if we aren't plugged into the Power Source. We can be "plugged in" through prayer.

There is so much more I could say, but I will leave you with this final quote that really made me think when I read it the first time. "When our lives are over and the record of our days stands complete, may the words have been written of us, Then she prayed....."
----------------------------------------------
"And foreigners who bind themselves to the LORD to serve him, to love the name of the LORD, and to worship him, all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it and who hold fast to my covenant- these I will bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices wll be accepted on my altar; for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations." Isaiah 56:6, 7

My prayer life is definitely lacking. I need to start a prayer journal. My quote as it stands now would probably read: then she sent out an email.
