My thoughts:

I have used and reviewed a variety of Bibles for women and children.  This one is different in that it is Filament-enabled.  What does that mean?  You get an app using the QR code at the front of the Bible.  Then whatever page you are on you can scan the page number, and the app will take you to numerous resources related to that page or passage.

You can click on the maps or infographics for more information. 

Also there is a section of songs which is a nice addition in my opinion.  You click to listen to the music.  

Besides the study notes and helpful additional information, you can also click at the bottom to listen to a reading of the Scriptures. 

I appreciate the size of this Bible.  It isn't too big or bulky.  It is a plus for me that it lays flat.  I tested this out while reading before bed.  

There are multiple cover choices.  I really like this one.  There is a verse on the back as well.

I wasn't sure if the font would be too small for me.  I recently got a Bible with larger print.  This one seems to be okay.  It's not large print but the spacing and wide margins help I believe.  The wide margins are super nice if you are a note taker.

My thoughts:
I was excited to review a family devotional book.  I've seen so many different types of these books through the years.  This one has so many things that I like.  It isn't the same format every day so it will keep children's attention.  I like that the same Bible passage is the focus for a full week.  This helps the family have time to talk about a passage, apply it to daily life, and learn more together than just a one time exposure.  Another thing I like is on Wednesday there are a list of songs related to the passage as well as a QR code to scan to listen to a related song.  I thought this was a fun and unique feature in this book.  

We are enjoying this book together, and I look forward to going through more weeks with my son.

My thoughts:

My son and I have been reading through this Bible together.  There are several things I like. First, it is easy to read and understand.  It is very similar to the version I typically read myself but the small changes do help in understanding it seems.  Next, I like how the divisions between the text have a title and then also the chapter/verses it is.  The verses aren't numbered as we typically see.  It does seem to help with the flow and not break things up as I'm used to.  I like the cartoon pictures throughout.  There is just the right amount so they add to the reading but not in a distracting way.  One last thing I like is in regards to the size...it is great size for children, not too heavy.  The font is a good size too.

My thoughts:
I was excited to share this Bible with my son.  He liked the information at the beginning of each book and also finding the QR codes to play a video about different topics.  It is full of "extras" to help kids engage with the text, answer their questions, and learn about the past.  I was impressed with the full color pictures and the highlighted verses throughout.  There is a list of all of these verses at the front, and they are goods ones to memorize.

A to Z Bible Verse Challenge Week #25

This week for the Truth from A to Z challenge over at The Happy Wonderer we have letter Y.  

I knew immediately which word I'd choose for Y......yet.

It is such a small word that we might often overlook.  This is the verse that came to mind.....

Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails
    and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls,
18                                yet 

I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior." Habakkuk 3:17, 18

Yet means to go back and read the previous verse.  Even if bad things are happening still we can rejoice in God and have joy because of Him.

Lots of people in the Bible waited for things, many for a very long time.  I think of Joseph, Hannah, and 

These verses remind me of the importance to wait for God and His plan and His timing.  

"In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly." Psalm 5:3

"Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes."  Psalm 37:7

My thoughts:

I was not familiar with verse mapping so was excited to learn more about this method for studying Scripture.  

There are many things I like about this particular Bible.  First the size and layout are great.  It is not too bulky to hold and I do like that it is a hardcover.   Another thing I like is that they provide 350 verse maps that are started for you.  They choose the verse and begin it and then you can finish.  There are also plenty of spaces that are totally blank for you to do your own verse map from beginning to end on whichever verse you choose. I will say the font is small I noticed. 

I feel like this method would be beneficial for someone wanting to dig dipper!

This week for the Truth from A to Z challenge over at The Happy Wonderer we have letter U.  This was a letter that was a little harder for me to decide which Bible word to use.  

Universe is the word I have picked.

By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. Hebrews 11:3

This is a reminder to me that even when I don't understand what is going on, God who created it all is in charge.  There is sooooooooo much that my eyes cannot see; I am limited in what I see and understand.  It is a comfort to know that the God who formed this universe is the One in control.

This week for the Truth from A to Z challenge over at The Happy Wonderer we have letter T.

 

The word that came to mind for letter is tongue.

Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 

James 3:5-8

There are so many verses about our words and the tongue in the Bible.  This passage always sticks out to me to be careful with my words and how the tongue is so dangerous.

This week for the Truth from A to Z challenge over at The Happy Wonderer we have letter S.

 

The word that came to mind for letter S is SING/SONG.

Sing to the Lord, all the earth; proclaim his salvation day after day. I Chronicles 16:23

Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. Psalm 33:1

Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Psalm 100:2

There are many instances of singing throughout the Bible.  I've always loved singing, and I have found that it can uplift my mood or change my attitude when I sing.  I sometimes will sing in the van as I'm driving home after I drop Titus off at school in the mornings.  I have found it is a nice way to start my day.

It was hard to choose a word with letter R!

Remember

There are many passages through the Bible of someone asking God to remember His promise but there are also some where the person remembers what God has done.  

"I remember the days of long ago; I meditate on all your works and consider what your hands have done."  Psalm 143:5

I think as humans we are prone to forget what God has done in the past for us. I think it is valuable to keep a record of what He has done....answers to prayer, His provision, how you saw Him work.  Look back on this record to remind yourself of His faithfulness to you through the years.  It will encourage you as you walk through new difficult times in life.

A to Z Bible Verse Challenge Week #17

This week for the Truth from A to Z challenge over at The Happy Wonderer we have letter Q.

 

I had a couple words come to mind for this letter.  Quit and question....I looked them up to see if those are in the Bible?  

But the word I have chosen for letter Q is quiet.

There is so much noise around us today everywhere we go.  Sometimes we need to stop, be silent, and quiet ourselves.  

This verse caught my attention a couple weeks ago.  I wrote it on a sticky note and carried it around with me as a reminder.  It made me think of my son.  Sometimes it seems he just needs to be close to me.  It gives him comfort.  That is how I am supposed to be with God....seeking Him for my comfort.  When I am with Him, I am calm, not worried and content.  

But I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother, like a weaned child I am content. Psalm 131:2

Book review: In Search of Wisdom

My thoughts:

I was excited to be able to read this book because it fits in perfectly with one of my goals for 2021!  I have printed a calendar to color off each day when I read the Proverb of the day.  I want to do this all year.  Many of the Proverbs are familiar to me, but I am excited at how I will learn new things from this book.

There are many things I like about this book.  I have read several books by Joyce Meyer and have found this one to be similar to previous ones. First, the font is easy to read and a good size.  Second, it is written in an easy to understand format.  She begins this book by explaining/defining the "seven foundational principles" that we find throughout the book of Proverbs.  These principles are wisdom, understanding, prudence, knowledge, discretion, discernment, and fear of the Lord.  I know I've heard these terms throughout my life, but it is helpful to have them explained in a way I understand.  The rest of the book is 31 chapters, one to go with each chapter of Proverbs.  Third, I like how she incorporates other scriptures to go with the specific proverb she is discussing.  It is good for me to see how verses throughout the Bible are tied together.  

I recommend this book to anyone who would like to gain a better understanding of the book of Proverbs.  I'm sure you will learn something new!

A to Z Bible Verse Challenge Week #16

This week for the Truth from A to Z challenge over at The Happy Wonderer we have letter P.

The word that came to mind was PROMISE.

Promise is defined as: 
    a declaration or assurance that one will do a particular thing or that a particular thing will happen.

This is a passage we read this week....2 Peter1:3,4
His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

This one is encouraging to me....2 Peter 3:9

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

Over the Christmas holidays, our church had given out a little sticker puzzle to count down the days until Christmas.  Each day had a different passage or activity and then you put a sticker on that day.  One of them talked about the promises of God, and it was good to talk about this.  There are so many promises God gives us in the Bible.  We need to remember these in our lives!

A to Z Bible Verse Challenge Week #15

This week for the Truth from A to Z challenge over at The Happy Wonderer we have letter O.

 

What came to mind for me was "one another."  I remember as a child a sermon one time about all the times "one another" is used in the Bible.  Here are a few:

Romans 12:10--Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.

Romans 12:16--Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.

Romans 13:8--Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.

Ephesians 4:2-- Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.

Philippians 2:5--In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus...

I Thesaalonians 5:11--Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

Hebrews 10:24, 25--And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds,  not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

There are many other verses as well.  I looked some up and found that "one another" is one word in Greek.  These verses speak of unity and doing things not with ourselves in mind but in thinking of others.  We need each other....we found that out the past year.  Whenever I am reading my Bible and come across a "one another" passage I take note of it and pay attention to what it is saying.

This week for the Truth from A to Z challenge over at The Happy Wonderer we have letter M.

Actually the first M word that came to mind was money.  I know the Bible says a lot about money.  I"ve chosen a different M word though.....majestic.

I just love Psalms 8:

Lord, our Lord,
    how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory
    in the heavens.
2 Through the praise of children and infants
    you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
    to silence the foe and the avenger.
3 When I consider your heavens,
    the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
    which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
    human beings that you care for them?[c]

5 You have made them[d] a little lower than the angels[e]
