1. The Hodgepodge lands on National Dog Day this year (August 26th). Do you own a dog? Did you have a dog when you were growing up, or maybe some other kind of pet? Would you say you're more of a dog person or a cat person? Neither is okay too : )
We had an outside dog, Sammie. She was a lab/boxer mix. She got out on Super Bowl Sunday, we found out she was gone on Monday morning. We searched the area multiple times and looked on the local lost/found sites. She was up the road from us on Sunday night we found but they did not keep her.
My favorite dog ever was one I had when I was little. She was named Bambi and an Eskimo Spitz. She got bit by a rattlesnake and died. I remember we had been gone for the evening and our neighbors had left a note on our door about it. They had taken her to the vet but the next morning we found out she didn't make it.

I guess I prefer dogs to cats. But neither inside.
It seems like everyone has a dog nowadays and they take it with them everywhere they go. I don't remember it being this way when I was little. I had friends with dogs, a couple I remember where inside pets but most were outside. Just something I've noticed and wondered about.
2. Last time you felt 'dog tired'?
The first week of August was tiring for me. We had so much going on that week and I think I drove around more that week than I have in the past 5 months. My nieces came for a night (which was so fun!), I had an out of town doctor's appointment, Caleb started football, and on Saturday was his birthday lunch gathering.
3. It's said you can't teach an old dog new tricks. When did you last prove this idiom true or prove it wrong?

Hmmmm, well I did learn how to do Venmo. I collected money from the football player parents. I have used PayPal but several of the Moms had Venmo so I tried it. It took me a little bit to figure out the app but I got it.

Oh there are so many.....I loved reading Where the Red Fern Grows with Caleb years ago. I loved the movie, but it was special to read the book with him.
The Disney cartoon Fox and the Hound comes to mind. Not sure why but I like that one.

I was very excited yesterday when I found the magnet clips I need for a football locker room decoration we are putting up Friday! Something silly but just what came to mind!

The boys have been in school since last Thursday. Caleb had a scrimmage that night as well. I love hearing about his day and classes. It is weird that he drives himself still. He doesn't get home till after 6:30 because of football. Titus has been so cute telling me about his day. He talks and talks when I pick him up. The past two mornings he has been sad at drop off though. I'm praying that will get easier for him. He says he misses me. I do know he loves it when he's there and gets going though.

It is my experience that couples are preferring dogs to having kids, and they treat them like people...I personally do not like to shop where dogs have passed down the aisle just ahead of me. Dog rights have become equal to human right, almost!
How nice that your boys can be at school and even playing football. Good for you for learning that new app! The only way I'd consider a dog is if it could live outside! Hope the rest of your week goes well.
It's so wonderful to hear that Titus and Caleb are having good school experiences. I can't believe I've never read Where the Red Fern Grows! I can relate to how weird it must be to have your son driving himself to school. My son hasn't shown a lot of interest in learning to drive, so we aren't in a big hurry. Our insurance will increase SO MUCH when he gets his license.

True, I grew up with dogs but they never went anywhere with us and since we have been married we have had about 7 dogs over the years and they didn't go anywhere with us. Now with Skye we take her in the car on our Montana trips and she hates it.
I do believe in old dogs new tricks. We are never to old to learn new things. Hooray for finding your magnet clips. I agree with you, it is weird that Caleb drives himself. It is nice that Titus is talking about his days and I do hope he moves past the sadness of leaving you.
Hi,
Where the Red Fern Grows was my pick as well. I read it out loud to my boys, they cried with me while reading it.
Good luck to your boys regarding school and football.
I'm sure it's worrying that the kids are back in school but I think it's definitely good to have routine. Sorry about your dogs.
