Alice, a young and talented sous chef at NY's top restaurant, receives an invitation to judge a food competition for a prestigious annual fundraiser. Despite the dismay of Bret, her boss who is also her boyfriend, she accepts the invitation. Once she arrives in Kansas, Alice is surprised to find her former boyfriend in college, Christian, is amongst the judges. The cooking show and her reconnection with Christian will make Alice reconsider her dream.
My thoughts:
Do you like cooking shows and watching to see what creative dishes the contestants will create for the judges? I have several that I do enjoy from time to time. If you like "cooking shows", then you should check out this cute little show. Sous chef, Alice, is invited to be a judge at a food competition. Will Alice decide to leave New York and her position?
It felt pretty predictable to me. However, I do appreciate that it is a clean show to watch which is a big plus! It is not quite 1 1/2 hours long. I liked the advice given to Christian's Aunt Daniela by one of the food competition contestants. Alice's boyfriend (and boss) Bret was not supportive of her creativity or her dreams. Will this cause her to change her mind about returning to New York?

It is always a good thing to hide God's Word in our hearts from a young age. Treasure Toons is a new resource to help you do that in your home. This DVD has 6 verses turned into songs. My little guy liked dancing around when I was watching this, and I could tell he liked the bright colors and simple images (nothing too busy or overstimulating I didn't think which is a plus to me). The songs play with the lyrics and then at the end you have the option of playing them without lyrics.
While typing this review I have one of the songs stuck in my head too! Isn't that the point!

My thoughts: This DVD series would be a great resource to do in a church group/class. I think it can make a difference for parents just to have an outlet to talk with other parents in confidence and get ideas and encouragement from other parents regarding how to share with their kids about the topic of sex. I was impressed with this video. I was very particular about the videos my son could watch when he was little (I still am for that matter!) This one would have qualified.
I'm so glad I was introduced to Owlegories. These little owls and their professor owl are a cute cast that teach valuable lessons. One thing in particular that I liked was that these episodes were not on typical "bible stories" we normally see on children's videos. They are lessons about creation that teach about God. After the segment with the owl, another segment is a couple of minutes long reviews what the owls learned. I liked the approach.

I think this is a great teaching tool for parents and see it being used in a church setting as well, like for a children's time or Sunday School class. I liked the length of each episode and how each one had a theme for the owls to learn about.

I watched this video yesterday. It is the trailer for a new book One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp. I listened to an interview with her yesterday too over at Grace Cafe. This sounds like a really good book, and this video is very touching. I encourage you to watch it.

I was excited to receive The Read & Share DVD Bible Volume 1 from Thomas Nelson. My four year old son was excited to watch it with me!
The Read & Share DVD is 13 Bible stories told in short 3 minute format. It starts in the beginning with Creation. Many Old Testament favorites like Adam and Eve and the Flood are included as well as a few from the New Testament like John the Baptist and Jesus’ birth. The cartoons are fun to watch, and the narrator in the background has a pleasant voice to hear. Extras are included on the DVD such as a behind the scenes look as well as interviews with kids.
Due to the condensed version of this series, obviously some details had to be omitted from the stories. I felt the right things were included though to tell the stories accurately for young children to understand and be able to follow along. The language used is very appropriate and understandable to a child’s vocabulary, which is another thing I appreciate about this video.
My son thoroughly enjoyed watching this with me. I look forward to the next volume from Thomas Nelson. I would recommend these videos for a family with young children. They are also appropriate to supplement Bible class lessons.
