A Different Beautiful

I am so enjoying the book A Different Beautiful by Courtney Westlake.  It has such a wonderful message about how we see those around us and what is truly beautiful.

I feel like so many people would benefit from this book.  It's release day is just a few weeks away!  Pre order your copy now! You will enjoy Brenna's story.

Here's a quote from the book I thought was fitting:

Stamp Out Hunger

Tomorrow May 14 is the Stamp Out Hunger food drive done by letter carrier's all around the country.  Here is a video clip about Stamp Out Hunger.

You can help.  Leave a bag of nonperishable food items at your mailbox Saturday for your letter carrier to pick up.  It doesn't have to be a lot of food, even one or two cans would be helpful.  Some ideas of things you could donate:  canned fruit or vegetables, peanut butter, tuna or other canned meat, juice, spaghetti and sauce, mac n cheese, etc.

For more information go to the Stamp Out Hunger website or visit them on Facebook

Have a day of blessings!

Childhood Cancer Awareness

I read a post recently through the Audrey's Umbrella message board that has stuck with me. It was written by a breast cancer survivor and mother of a child battling brain cancer. Here is the link to the post so you can read it yourself. Caringbridge (look at journal entry for September 26, 2008)

I feel like this mother has made many valid points. September was Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. It was much less publicized than all the notices everywhere reminding women it is now Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Reading this made me wonder what I could do to raise awareness. I found a gold ribbon while reading a blog recently and asked permission to use it, so I'm adding it to my sidebar.

It is heartbreaking to read stories and hear about all of the families who have battled cancer with their children. More funding and research needs to be done. Surely someone could find an answer.
