Brill Jessup is the new police chief in Sophie Trace. She thinks she'll have less stress in this small town compared to her previous job in Memphis. Citizens begin disappearing though without any apparent connection. Some of the citizens blame the legend of the "red shadows" for the disappearances, which is the media focus rather than the facts. If thinks at work aren't stressful enough, Brill is harboring deep resentment and bitterness towards her husband, which is tearing her family apart.
If you enjoy reading suspense and a good mystery, I recommend this book to you. The reader can relate to all of the characters, and the plot will have you flipping pages to find out what happens. I look forward to what happens next for Brill and her family in book #2. I'm happy to have another author on my list I love reading!
