Christian wives/husbands (January)
Now on to today's question. The third week of each month will be a parenting question. I don't want to exclude those without children so please feel free to answer based on your own experience as a child or maybe a young niece/nephew.
Today's question: How do you share God's Word with your children? If you have teenagers or grown children, please share how you shared with them as children and how that changed as they got older.
My answer: We read Bible stories before bed and talk about them. We like to thank God in daily living, like for a beautiful sunrise or rain. Another thing is to use Biblical examples in situations when possible, like for values/moral type things.
Please leave your answer in the comments and be sure to come back next week to read every one's answers. Thank you!

Great question.
We try to read Bible stories before bed. And sometime soon (once we can get into any sort routine again) I want to start doing some type of project about Bible stories, because he really liked Christmastime when we were making the ornaments about the Bible stories and he's still been talking about some of them!
When Kristyn was little we read devotions and prayed, talked about God in the little things of ordinary life. As the grands have come along, we sing Christian children's songs to them since they are so young. We also say, "Jesus loves you even more than Nonnie and Paw Paw!" At 16 months and 3.5 months, not sure how much they understand, but we're starting the foundation.
My kids are grown now, but we did it in several ways. One way that pops into my mind is that we had this little bread loaf shaped holder that held a bunch of tiny cards with verses on each card. Before our meals, we would take turns pulling out a verse and reading it, and everyone else would have to guess what book of the Bible that verse was from. It was a lot of fun.
Bethany,
I was here earlier and typed a whole message but I don't see it. I was having trouble with my computer too...so I'm wondering if the message did not take.
We have had devotions with our children together and one on one with each child/each parent. We talk about the Lord in everything.
I have two very different children. One was very resistant to the things of the Lord at the onset of her later teen years. My son is very receptive and close to the Lord so discussions are much easier and not such a tug of war.
I would like to thank you, Bethany, for your kind words of encouragement for my daughter, Krystle. Truly, you have no idea how much I needed to hear them.
Also..you asked about the picture at the top of my blog...it is of our lake at sunset and my hubby took it a few days ago. I have a few kind of like it...would you like me to email a couple to you?
Hugs to you, my friend.
Bedtime Devotions.
When my daughter was little, I read bible stories, helped her memorize scripture, etc... As a teen, family devotions... and solicited advice... As an adult child, solicited and unsolicited advice/Word, bible study as a family too.
Please stop by my blog for awards... Blessings
Sorry I'm late! We read teh Bible to our kids before bed... a kids version... we pray together as a family... we attend church (mostly) and we talk about Jesus and encourage the kids to talk about Jesus. I never feel like its enough! Great question Bethany!
God bless-
Amanda
We always read the Scriptures to our kids and also Bible story books. Also, my kids always knew that Mommy needed time to read the Bible. They were to sit in their rooms and read something quietly as well. On many occasions they would see me writing and highlighting in my Bible. One day, Laura was sent to my room for a "time out" break away from her sister. I told her to sit on my bed and think about what she had just done. I came in and found her writing and highlighting in my Bible! (She was about 4 at the time and Missy was 6.) I asked her what she thought she was doing! She told me she was telling God she was sorry for hitting her sister and she wanted to remember that He said, "Okay, I forgive you."
To this day, those 2 pages are very special to me.
