Memory Verse Week 37

I was familiar with last week's verse but not the second part of verse 9. I have interesting images floating through my mind when I think of the devil prowling around like a lion "looking for someone to devour." That is really strong. This verse reminded me of our little incident during our recent picnic lunch at Chick-fil-a. I never knew those rats were hiding in the bushes. Who knows how many times I've eaten there in the past and yet I didn't know they were there. When I saw them, they took me by surprise. I wasn't expecting them to be my guests at lunch that day. They caught me off guard and made me nervous. Can't it be the same way with the devil? He suddenly pops his ugly head out, maybe when we least expect it, throwing flaming arrows our way with negativity, worry, jealousy, envy, depression, fear, or a host of other things. Maybe it's something we think we've worked through and dealt with in the past. Yet there he is again. We think where did you come from? Really though he's been there all the time; he's just been waiting to attack. We are in a battle. We cannot see the forces at work in the spiritual realm yet they are there. We must be ready always because the devil is there. We have to be guarded, dressed and ready for battle.

This week's memory verse is from Colossians 2:13,14--

"When you were dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having cancelled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us, he took it away nailing it to the cross."

I'm so glad you decided to share your post on Spiritual Sundays. What a good illustration about the devil popping up when we don't expect it. That is so true. I've enjoyed reading your blog. The background really looks like back to school. That's one of the things I always liked about fall especially when I was a kid. I never could understand why some hated school. I loved it.

Great analogy... at first... it's scary to think about the rats, but then I realize... they are just rats.
