This week Caleb is taking swimming lessons. I waited and called too late to get a spot at the pool where he had lessons last summer, and they were filled up. Then in our town at the snow cone stand there was an ad for lessons this week so I called about it. It is one of the coaches and his wife plus some help from some teenagers. They have been doing it for 28 years I believe he said.
Last Saturday was the first day. The lessons continued this week Monday through Saturday. There are a variety of age levels and abilities in Caleb's class. On Saturday I was pleased with how they discovered each child's level and worked with them accordingly. It was encouraging also to hear the stories about the children who have been coming for 2 or 3 years and how much they've improved from their first year of crying and not wanting to get in to swimming across the pool this year.
Caleb does not like to get his face wet. I wonder where he gets this! I have heard stories about myself at swimming lessons at a young age. I would not get my face wet. The teacher worked and worked with me to get my hair wet. I'd turn my head every which way to get parts of my hair wet without getting my face wet. I eventually got it I guess though and would get my whole head wet. So I totally understand Caleb not wanting to get his face wet!
They worked with him the first day on blowing bubbles in a ring. Each day I have seen his progress. I could tell today and yesterday he was really trying to do what they wanted him to do. Before we go I tell him to just do his best and have fun. I believe Daddy will be surprised at how different he is in the water this Saturday compared to last Saturday when he went with us.
