Friday morning I noticed the carpet in our computer/storage room was damp to my feet. I didn't think much of it and thought maybe it was from off of my husband's shoes when he went to get the paper or something. Later in the morning I felt it was still damp and saw a big wet spot on some clothes that were laying there. I felt some areas were more wet. My cousin was visiting us for the day so she helped me take my trinkets and Precious Moments off the shelf. It was still too heavy for us with the books in the bottom, but I saw water damage on the bottom of the shelf. Chel and Caleb unscrewed the panel under the air conditioner unit. We found the source of the problem! I called my husband, and he decided to come home from work early. He cleaned out the line, which was apparently clogged. I unloaded the books from the bottom half of the shelf, and we moved it outside. It was such a mess underneath and already growing mold. I've had that book case since my college apartment days. Meemaw had let me use it back then. We'll just have to get a new one I guess.
We have not been using the a/c for that long this year and it was off for several days last week when we were out of town. The carpet is really wet though and with that slow dripping, who knows how long it's been building up and leaking like that. Since everything is off the shelf now I've sorted through the books and started a pile for our garage sale. It makes me want to clean out the rest of the house too. I didn't know what we were doing for Memorial Day weekend but now it looks like cleaning!
