This past week one day Caleb hollered LOOK! LOOK! and was pointing out the back sliding glass door. I ran to see what he was talking about, assuming Meow Meow had gotten out her kittens. She is keeping them under our shed in the backyard. Earlier in the week we were able to get out a couple of them. One of them was not very active and seems to be the runt. (I didn't think he was very cute really!)
Anyway, I ran to the window and sure enough it was Meow Meow but she did NOT have a kitten in her mouth. I grabbed the camera (of course) as she pranced around the yard. When I went out the back door, she started coming toward me. I dashed back inside, not wanting her anywhere near me with that thing hanging out of her mouth! Apparently she found some nice lunch in the field behind our house. She brought it to our front porch where she eats and we watched her out the window.
As we sat there I could tell Caleb did not want to watch her as she was beginning to eat it. I took him away from the window. He was almost sad. I used it as an opportunity to tell him how that is just how God made animals. Some bigger animals eat smaller animals, and they are made to know to eat those animals when they're hungry if they aren't a pet and have someone to feed them.
I distracted him with watching a little movie while I finished my ironing. Then after the show he went over to the window to see what was happening. He came over and told me, "My cat ate that mouse's lungs." It made me laugh inside because it sounded exactly like something I would have said as a child!

My husband saw Meow Meow calling out the baby kittens this afternoon. I'll try to get some more pictures of them. A couple of them are really cute!

I kind of had to turn my head away from reading, lol. But it was a good teachable moment. Growing up we always had a cat who would leave dead moles on the doorstep.
ooohhhh boy! lol Yeah...one of the joys of having a pet, huh? I know it well. Scout used to do the same with larger animals...from the creek behind the house. Ugg.
Glad Meow Meow didn't get it inside the house!!!
Good job on diverting Caleb! You have such quick thinking!! :) Makes you a great teacher and mom!
I was going to say good job on being a present Mommy who could talk to him about things like that honestly. It's hard to explain that sort of thing to a young one, but you did a good job.
I love your cat's name. I watched a similar episode once... no matter how true it is... it's still ghastly to watch isn't it?
