I've been thinking about this for a few weeks. Is anyone else disgusted by the decorations out for Halloween this year? It seems they continue to get more scary and gruesome each year. We aren't big on "celebrating" Halloween as some people do nowadays. We let Caleb carve a pumpkin, dress up in a friendly costume and get candy at church parties or go to fall festivals, but that's about it. I love the cute scarecrows, happy jack-o'-lanterns, and fall pumpkins and leaves. Some of the stuff I've seen this year though just disgusts me. I don't see what people find appealing about such ugly things or why they'd want to put them in their homes or yards. This year I've been covering Caleb's eyes when we go past that section. In Walmart, for example, everything is in plain view when I go to the pharmacy area. A lady walking past laughed when she saw me with my hand on his eyes. I wondered if she thought I didn't want him looking at the candy. One day we were in Walgreen's and he put his own hand on his face. I hadn't even noticed the spooks hanging from the ceiling. Then he started putting his head down and told me they were ugly things. I guess he knew I didn't want him looking at such. He is so sensitve about things he sees, and I see no point in putting such images in his little mind. Even though time is passing quickly, I must say I look forward to November 1 so the stores will take away the "ugly things."

honestly, we usually do a very nice, low-key Halloween. I have avoided the Halloween aisles for years because I don't like all the scary stuff myself, not to mention what my kids will think of them. I haven't seen any worse this year than previous years though.
