Fun Fair Weekend!

Gasoline: $40

Hotel: $49

Fair tickets: $22

Fair food: $17

Perpetual smile of a sweet little boy: Priceless!

We had so much fun on our trip to the fair!! We got there at the perfect time Friday, and Caleb got to participate in the Pee Wee Stampede. He was so cute in the "bull riding," and I could tell he was having such a great time. We went to the children's petting zoo and farm before Caleb rested. Let me tell you how proud I was when I told him he needed to rest! Before going to the fair I'd told him that sometime in the day he'd probably need to rest so he wouldn't be so tired. I found a cool area for me and Daddy to sit and he laid in his stroller (that he barely fits in anymore really!) and took a nap. We walked around a bit into some vendor booths that wouldn't have interested him anyway before he woke up. The rest of the day we saw some pig races, ate supper, and watched an evening parade. Before leaving we went to the auto show. I wasn't sure I was going to get either of my boys out of there! I really enjoyed watching both of them have so much fun getting into all the different vehicles on display. Caleb thought it was grand to check out so many different cars and trucks.

It doesn't have to "break the bank" to go to the fair I've found. I checked online ticket prices a while back and was excited to find them discounted. However, I found out the shipping charges were outrageous so I would lose all the discount plus some. I knew we could get a discount at Kroger which is what we did last year. My Mom had clipped a buy one get one free coupon for us from the Ft. Worth Star Telegram. But I read the fine print and you had to have a press pass to use it. Well I looked online at the Star Telegram and they had an article on ways to save money at the fair. One was coupons from McDonalds. We stopped on the way and picked some up. When we got there JMP paid for his with his $3 off coupon. I paid for mine separately, asking if I could use the free child pass or just the $3 off coupon. They let me use both so we all three got in for $22. For the hotel I checked around online and found the "weekend impulse" rate of $49 at LaQuinta. We'd stayed at that location before so we booked it. The fair food was pricey, but we took in some extra snacks and water bottles and didn't spend much on food either.

It is always interesting to watch the people and see the crowds. The crowd seemed to grow as the day progressed but was nothing compared to the fans we saw last year (we ended up going two days last year and one of those was a Saturday that JMP was working at a booth for work) for the Red River Rivalry game. Two things I will never understand: 1. why you would ever wear high heels to a fair. 2. why you would want to win a huge stuffed animal and carry it around with you the rest of the day (not to mention what you do with it when you get it home!)

I think Daddy said it best last night when he said he loved seeing Caleb's perpetual smile. I totally agree. I'm so glad we got to go and that we have this tradition of going to the fair each year. You should go sometime if you've never been!

Sounds like you had a lovely time. We have not been to the fair yet, but maybe we will start that tradition as well.

Oh and kudos on saving so much money! That's awesome!
