Beth Moore Study: "The Potter and the Clay"

Last night's Bible study was another blessing for me. It was about rest. Who doesn't need rest! It seems everyone is exhausted. The majority of people are seeking approval either of themselves or of others. We have so many demands on our time. In the video Beth said "Perpetual exhaustion is not in God's will." Whoa! How true that is!

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28--30

What a beautiful passage! I wonder how many times I've read that passage in the Bible. It has always been a comfort to read. Now I can appreciate it more fully since I learned the meanings of some of the words. Christ is offering His rest to us. Sometimes we just need to stop and refocus, to cease our activities and busyness. Who could be a better "yoke-mate" than Christ? If we're yoked with Christ, we're going to pay attention to Him. Notice the descriptors of Christ being "gentle and humble in heart." One of the words brought out that I hadn't paid much attention to before is the word "find." This rest is not one that is easy to explain to someone, you have to find out about it for yourself.

This whole lesson has really made me think about my time and activities. I can see how I can become so busy (or feel that I'm so busy) doing all these things that I just get worn out. Is that how God wants us to live? I don't think so. There are many noble activities that God would want us to do for our families, churches, and friends. There comes a point though that we have to realize we're human and put a limit on our activities. Something else to think about is sometimes we have to give up things/activities we really love--things that are really good and blessings to others. It may hurt to give it up at the time, but God may have just been using that activity for a time of your life as a way to open a door into another ministry or blessing for you.
