Yesterday I finished reading Facing Your Giants by Max Lucado. I enjoy his writing style and we checked this one out from the library. Basically each chapter is about a different giant in David's life and how he faced it. Lucado relates these to giants we all face in our daily lives and how we handle them. He finishes the book with a chapter entitled "Take Goliath Down!" where he gives five "stones" we can use when facing our giants.
1. the stone of the past--Remember what God has done in previous battles you've faced. Think this isn't too big for God.
2. the stone of prayer--We must pray first.
3. the stone of priority--Keep God as number One. Lucado wonders what would happen if we welcomed the giant and used it as a way to show God's "multicolored supremacy."
4. the stone of passion--Does it do any good to go over and over the problem in our minds? Let your focus be on the Lord.
5. the stone of persistence--Don't give up.
I enjoyed this book and learned some interesting things from the Bible about the life of David.

"This day the LORD will hand you over to me, and I'll strike you down and cut off your head. Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD's, and he will give all of you into our hands." I Samuel 17:46, 47
