Audio book: A Love Transformed

I am a big fan of Tracie Peterson and have read many of her books through the years.  I'd borrowed the first book in the Sapphire Brides series (A Treasure Concealed) from my local library and was happy to receive the audio version of book #3 for my review.

This book is called A Love Transformed.  In the beginning of this book the main character Clara is widowed.  She is not grief stricken by this though because she did not have a marriage of love to her husband.  She says she has only ever loved one man and her mother took her away from him.  She has two young children and decides to take them to Montana to her aunt and uncle's home where she spent time as a young girl. She discovers her first love there at the ranch recovering from an injury.  Her children fall in love with the ranch life and Clara has to decide whether to stay or return to her home and another loveless marriage with her late husband's brother.  Then she finds out a secret about her husband and his brother.

I enjoyed this book and the characters.  The children were delightful and I like how they were portrayed throughout the book.   I did not like Clara's mother and got annoyed with how she treated Clara and her children.

I did not see any connection with these characters and the first book of the series so it was fine to read on its own.  I recommend this book if you enjoy historical fiction.

This book was read by Melissa Hurst.  I enjoyed her voice and felt she had the right voice for this historical book.  She did a good job and made it enjoyable for me.

2010 Book #9: "Across the Years" by Tracie Peterson

I have finished another audio book. I have found I really enjoy listening to books when I am by myself in the car driving back and forth to town.

Across the Years is book #2 in the Desert Roses series by Tracie Peterson. Ashley Reynolds is a Harvey Girl in Winslow, Arizona, living with her grandfather and daughter Natalie. Ashley was disowned years before by her parents when she married the "wrong" man, Ethan Reynolds, who she later finds out was killed in the war. Through the years she holds onto her pain of losing her husband as well as her love for him. Natalie wishes for a new Daddy and tries to play matchmaker for her mother and a local architect. As her grandfather becomes ill and close to death, his dying wish is to be reunited with his two daughters once more. Will Ashley be able to face her mother and the pain she has caused her for so many years? What lessons can Ashley learn from her visit?

I enjoyed the story and the lessons learned by Ashley. The reader of this audio book was interesting to hear as well. I borrowed this book from my local library and look for more by this author.

2010 Book #7: Shadows of the Canyon by Tracie Peterson

I finished another audio book by Tracie Peterson. This one is called Shadows of the Canyon which is book #1 in the Desert Roses series.

In this historical fiction novel Alexandria Keegan is one of the Harvey Girl's at an elite hotel, El Tovar. Alex is searching for a way to help her mother escape her father because of his flirtations and affairs with other women. She then fears for her mother's safety after she is accused of murdering her father when she comes to confront him regarding his actions.

This was an enjoyable book to hear. I look forward to checking out book #2 from our library.

2010 Book #6: A Love to Last Forever by Tracie Peterson

I finished listening to A Love to Last Forever by Tracie Peterson. I checked this one out of the library. It is book #2 in the Brides of Gallatin County. I read book #3 and reviewed it previously. I saw this one and enjoyed the other one so I checked it out. This one was good too.

This book is about sister Beth Gallatin. She often reads romance novels and finds herself wishing she could have the kind of love. Nick is interested in Beth, but she of course doesn't seem to realize this at first. Just as they start to have a real relationship, Beth finds out about the secret of Nick's past. Will this secret tear them apart or make them stronger?

I enjoyed this book, even if I did read it out of order. I look forward to reading (or listening to!) more from this author.

2010 Book #1: A Dream To Call My Own by Tracie Peterson

I started this book last week (last year!) but really got into yesterday and finished it up this morning. I am very overdue on this review. I requested this book at the same time I requested a couple others from Bethany House. I got very behind in my reading. This is my last one though and I'm starting fresh for 2010!

A Dream to Call My Own by Tracie Peterson is the third book in the Brides of Gallatin County series. I have not read the first two books in the series but picked up pieces of the story of the other two sisters in this book.

This is the story of Lacy Gallatin who is the youngest of three sisters. She is a stubborn, independent woman. Her goal is to find the person responsible for killing her Pa. She realizes that this has actually consumed her and the revenge is eating away at her. The deputy sheriff Dave Shepard has been in love with Lacy for some time but she doesn't see herself as good enough for him because of what she considers her past failings.

It was an enjoyable story and I look forward to others from this author. I found out my library has some audio books by her so I will try those too!
