Book review: A Wedding Invitation

I'm happy to share with you my review of Alice Wisler's book A Wedding Invtation.  This is my third book to read by this author (click to see my reviews of Hatteras Girl or How Sweet It Is).

In A Wedding Invitation Samantha Bravencourt lives near Washington, D.C. where she works at her mother's clothing shop.  She receives a wedding invitation in the mail from an old friend, and the wedding ends up very differently than Samantha (or the reader) might expect!  Samantha ends up coming into contact with Carson Brylie, who was a fellow teacher at a refuge camp years ago, and one of her former students from the camp named Lien. 

As Carson and Samantha work together to help Lien, Samantha has flashbacks to the time she spent with Carson at the refuge camp as her emotions are stirred for the one who broke her heart.

I really enjoy the books this author has written, and this one is no exception.  I like the feel of her books, the way she writes, her characters and settings, and how the books seem unique from other authors' writing styles.
And one more thing, I really like this cover a lot.

2010 Book #34: Hatteras Girl

I would like to recommend the book Hatteras Girl by Alice J. Wisler.

Jackie Donovan's two dreams are to find a wonderful man to marry and to own a bed-and-breakfast. She lives with her childhood friend Minnie and Minnie's son Zane. Jackie and Minnie have dreamed together of having a bed-and-breakfast since their days spent as young girls at The Bailey House. Jackie feels her dream might be close to coming true when she begins dating Davis Erickson.

This book is full of interesting characters and has a great story line. I love how the author weaves the characters' lives together. It is interesting to read, and I didn't really want the book to end. This is a story of friendship, family, dreams, and loss. Also I must say I just love the cover too. I think it really captures the setting of this story.

I look forward to more books by this wonderful author, Alice J. Wisler.

2009 Book #35: How Sweet It Is by Alice J. Wisler

How Sweet It Is by Alice J. Wisler is the story of Deena Livingston. She moves from her life in Atlanta to a cabin in the mountains of North Carolina which was left to her by her grandfather. The cabin comes with one stipulation: Deena must teach cooking classes to some local middle school students. While her original plan was to start a new life away from the painful memories of a broken engagement and have her own cake decorating business, she must adjust to teaching troubled kids. After her first day she feels sure the kids will never like her and she’ll never be able to teach them anything.

This is a touching story. I could relate to the characters and felt Deena’s pain. This is the first book I've read by this author. I enjoyed her writing style and it was enjoyable to get to know the characters.
