Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. My hubs spent last weekend pheasant hunting. Are there hunters in your family? If so, what do they hunt? Which of the following have you tasted-pheasant, rabbit, venison, duck, goose? Which of those would you most like to taste, or be most willing to taste? Vegetarians keep calm and Hodgepodge on.  Yes, my husband's family has always gone hunting together.  I didn't know anything about hunting really until we started dating.  My husband is not as into it as his brothers. He and his Dad were out with Caleb this past weekend as it was the youth weekend (before opening weekend which is this coming weekend).  They saw deer and turkey, but Caleb did not shoot anything.  I don't know if I ever tasted any of them, I probably had venison as a child.

2. What high spot have you visited that gave you a wonderful 'bird's eye view' of something below?  When we went to Colorado a few summers ago we went to a high point look out.  It was a narrow drive up, and then we could see all around.  It was neat in Tennessee on our last summer vacation when we went to Ruby Falls to come out of the falls up to the observation deck and see the surroundings.

3.  Do you have any birds in your home? These could be either real live pets or decorative, as in bird prints, knickknacks, fabric or pottery.  Not really.  I have a decorative plate that has a bird on it. That's all I can think of.

4. Tell about a time you 'killed two birds with one stone'?  Making muffins for a teacher breakfast and made extra so Caleb could have some for breakfast too.  He's probably needing a break from Cheerios!

5. Your favorite song with a bird in it's title? The one that came to mind first was "On the wings of a snow white dove." I don't know if that is even the title.  Look forward to reading answers others come up with for this one.

6. What most recently gave you goose bumps?  I don't recall a specific event, probably something to do with the new baby.

7. Halloween is this Friday...any plans? Did you trick or treat as a child? Carve pumpkins? Share your most memorable costume. Not really any plans except we'd like to go to the football game.  Our neighborhood is always a MESS with lots of traffic and parked cars.  We will carve a pumpkin probably on Thursday.  As a child I did not trick or treat except to relatives' houses or people we knew from church, etc.  Mostly I'd go to a school sponsored carnival or a festival at church.  We lived out in the country and never had trick or treaters.  We carved pumpkins too.

My Mom made me many memorable costumes.  One was a chicken costume. AND I happened to have a scanned copy of the picture of me pretending to peck the ground. Funny, huh!  It was quite a costume with all those feathers!

In junior high we had costume contests.  One year she made me a bumble bee costume.  Another year she made me a Hershey Kiss costume. She made my cousin a matching one.  This is my cousin (with her face covered) because I could not find one of both of us together. It was my favorite costume ever. :)

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
While the boys went hunting, I stayed at my Mom's.  I usually go with them to the lease, but since they changed camp locations and this one does not have a bathroom, I decided not to go!  I had a relaxing time at Mom's.  We ate lunch together at a cute little restaurant and went to the kids' clothing consignment shop.  I found things for Caleb and also some maternity clothes.  Great prices!  My Mom got some gender neutral sleepers and a little high chair that fits into our table chairs.  Mom fixed beans for supper for me, the boys came back later in the evening, and we got home late. It was a fun little trip.

One more thing.... for the past several Novembers I've participated in a "Giving Thanks Challenge." Each day I add something from that day that I'm thankful for.  I keep the list on my blog and on Facebook.  Will you be joining in the challenge this year?

Have a day of blessings!

I've done the thankful challenge in the past. Not sure I'll record it on my blog this year, but I do love the idea of thinking about gratitude on a daily basis. I love the kiss costume!

That is a beautiful view. That chicken costume is so cute. That is a cute Hershey Kisses costume too! Sounds like you had a great day with your mom.

Ha! I really liked the chicken and Hershey's Kiss costumes. So cute!
Being thankful every day really matters and can change the way we look at everything.
