Book #14: Mosaic Pieces of My Life So Far

This was another book on the "new" shelf at the library that caught my attention, another autobiography. It is called Mosaic Pieces of My Life So Far and is stories from the life of Amy Grant. I didn't know much about her except that she was a singer when I first picked up the book. I enjoyed her stories from her childhood and some parenting experiences.

One of the stories that I thought was especially meaningful was called Golden Chances. Here is a quote from that chapter:

"Life is made up of golden chances, opportunities to do good. One lost is lost forever. If we miss doing a kindness to a friend, we can never do that kindness again. If we might speak a
pleasant word or offer a bit of worthwhile counsel or advice and fail to do so, we can
never have just that opportunity again. Giving is a way of life." A. M. Burton

She went on to write about the value of giving and generosity. She says, "We can give support, encouragement, advice, attention, praise, honor, blood, respect, time, energy. Each of us is gifted in unique ways, and our generosity springs from those wells."

Reading this has made me think about how I give, the importance of giving (not just financially), and the difference we can make by being generous.

I read this passage also from Proverbs, and I thought it applied to what I'd just read in this book.

Proverbs 11:24--26 "One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed. People curse the man who hoards grain, but blessing crowns him who is willing to sell."

"But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners." Romans 5:8, NLT
