It is opening weekend of hunting season. I've been to the lease a couple times. I would say I've learned a few things in the past 9 years of hunting seasons.
1. I don't know how many years, but for a long time I had my own idea of what JMP meant when he said the deers were "in the rut." I felt silly when he told me what it really meant!
2. Cold weather is best for hunting.
3. Full moons mean deer will eat at night and not wait till morning. Therefore, you won't see many on the morning hunt.
4. Hunting requires a lot of waiting and quietness.
5. You have to get up very early to get into your stand before daylight.
6. Hunting can get very expensive very fast. (Just visit Cabela's or Academy for a look at some of the gear out there for hunters!)
7. The season only lasts two months. With the holidays thrown in there the months go by very fast!
8. It's important to use the same brand of bullets in your rifle each time.
9. I know how special it is for him to be outdoors after being inside most of the time for his work, to spend time with his Grandpa, Dad, and brothers, to carry on the tradition of yearly trips to the lease, and to enjoy God's creation.
I love you JMP. Hope you get a big one! (I know you love that phrase!)
